PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Luxury of Living
This breathtaking custom built infinity pool was designed and built to complement the existing home that was being renovated and extended in one of Sydney’s most prestigious countryside locations, Kenthurst. Designed with entertaining and family in mind the pool and spa play a starring role in the architecturally designed home which is showcased throughout the property via large floor to ceiling glass windows that warmly invite the outside in. Upon entering the home, the pool and spa become the main focal point with a seamless centre point created from the entrance that runs right through to the glistening pool, an instant talking point amongst guests.
BRIEF
The objective of the pool design was to be the key architectural focal point framing an individual’s first impression of the property, creating an inspiring and all encapsulating sense of arrive. Upon arrival your eye is immediately drawn through the glass front doors, through the property, across the water’s surface straight to the transition between water line of the infinity edge and the natural bush horizon.
The pool is designed to completely fill the vista framed by the front as you enter the property, centered within this frame is a cube of water which appears to simply be floating on the water’s surface (created by the glass lined spa).
Walking through the entrance foyer of the property the panorama of the pool expands again framed by the large glass doors at the back of the room, teasing the individual’s senses. It is not until you transition through these doors do you see for the first time the full scale of pool and the surrounding landscape.
In addition to creating this incredible first impression the design had to incorporate our client’s family from a functionality perspective:
- The gas heated spa for Mum & Dad
- The shallow beach area creating a safe and environment for younger children to stand and paddle in the water
- Deeper areas for older children to swim, jump and enjoy
- The pool surrounds provide ample space for the family to enjoy their desired resort style living
To accomplish this Patterson Pools needed a blank canvas from which to start, therefore an existing older pool needed to be filled in and the property’s current backyard landscape had to be completely overhauled. This allowed us to build the new custom pool further back creating more space around the rear of the home and additional entertaining zones.
The new 14m infinity style custom concrete pool has a various depths of 1.2m to 1.8m to 1.2m and further features usable beach areas perfect for the kids and relaxing on. The pool is solar heated, includes an automatic Matronics Robotic pool cleaner for ease of use and maintenance and a hidden pool pump enclosure was retained and installed below the pool away from sight to create a seamless finish. A Veron automated pool system was also installed to allow the homeowners to easily control every feature from inside the home. Every aspect of our client’s lifestyle was considered when designing and building this pool and the same attention to detail was carried across the entire project.
LUXURY LIVING
The pools coping features 600mm x 400mm x 20mm with a 50m miter Nuage cream porcelain tile, while the interior features 215m2 of Niebla 25mm x 05mm mid blue pool mosaic tiles creating an inviting aquatic oasis. All finishing aspects of the pool, spa and surrounding landscape were carefully selected to create one cohesive space, while giving each element some character and contrast from one another.
FLOATING SPA
One of the most impressive features of the design is the spa which was built into the centre of the beached area of pool. We incorporated a low iron 19mm ultra-clear star fire toughened glass to create the illusion of a floating spa- a stunning visual focal point that the client’s love. This material was chosen for the beautiful effect that it gives, clarity and the blue tones that it emits. The spa is also equipped with gas heating, and the entire pool is tiled with the Niebla 20mm x 05mm mid blue pool mosaic tiles to match the pool.
ENTERTAINERS DREAM
Surrounding the pool 2 x 2.5m holes were dug out either side of the pool to accommodate 2 x 6.5m tall palm trees which were craned in and positioned to create the ultimate touch of luxury, especially at night when lit up.
The pool and spa are the heart of the backyard, which are complemented by a large alfresco space featuring custom made natural look tables designed to entertain over 40+ guests, along with a lounge area equipped with a beautiful aspen white stone feature fireplace. As these elements were to serve as the family’s entertaining hub, it was important that the pool and alfresco areas were functional, seamless, and visually appealing.
The result is a stunningly beautiful infinity pool that offers the ultimate touch of luxury that the clients are absolutely thrilled about.
